Decadent (But Healthy!) Chocolate Energy Balls

Sometimes we fancy a little mid-morning or mid-afternoon chocolate treat, but commercial sweets are loaded with refined sugar and lack anything even remotely resembling a nutrient.

These raw energy balls will satisfy your sweet tooth and deliver a powerful punch of vitamins, minerals, protein and healthy fats. Plus the active constituent of raw cacao, theobromine, will boost mental and cognitive performance – so you may want to have one at your desk!

Instructions

This is a ‘no-bake’ recipe, making them pretty easy to make:

  1. Grind the almonds into small chunks using a food processor.
  2. Add all the other ingredients except the chia seeds and blend.
  3. Once you have an even consistency, scrape out the processor and place the mixture on wax paper
  4. Shape into small balls and roll in a light coating of chia seeds
  5. Let them firm up in the fridge for an hour or so (and keep them stored in the fridge).
  6. Enjoy!

  • Thanks for sharing Sharee :). Would love to make these while I’m here in Bali, but nuts are pretty expensive. What would you recommend if I want to make nut free energy balls? Should I just omit the nuts, or replace them with something else? Carly x

  • Hi Carly! Yes, I remember when I was in Bali that nuts like almonds etc were expensive….except for peanuts, they were easy to find and cheap, so you could try them maybe – or even a healthy peanut butter? Otherwise you could try increasing the amount of shredded coconut, that should be easy enough to find over there too! Enjoy xx

    • Hmmm interesting food for thought, thank you! I may just go with extra coconut (or make sure the peanuts are well blended as I’m not the biggest fan of peanuts in these types of recipes) :).

  • Love finding and making raw vegan energy balls recipes, this ones gona be next. They sound more like healthy dessert balls with the cacao in there. Maybe dessert tonight ;)

  • Yummmmm. I’ve been looking for a good chocolate energy balls with dates recipe, and then this lands in my inbox today! Thank youuuu

  • HOW GOOD ARE ENERGY BALLS RECIPES WITH DATES. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. HAVE TO STOP MYSELF FROM EATING THE PACKET WHILE IM MAKING THEM THOUGH. MEDJOOL ONES ARE THE BEST.
